What are Open-ended toys?

I’m sure many parents (and kids) who are not used to playing with open ended toys, probably think “those look boring.” We all know kids love to play with random things that are not intended to be used as toys. Or how about you buy your kiddo a new toy, take it out of the package and find them to prefer the box more than to toy itself! Toys that can be played with in many different ways are considered open-ended. For example, a toy with buttons that make noises can only be played with in one way; the child is unable to make spontaneous changes with the toy depending on what they want to do or how they feel at that moment. Open –ended toys promote independent play, creativity and skill development.
